we use the same principle in the fire service. when we use a fan to clear smoke out of a house we point the fan at the front door and make sure the cone of air covers the entire door. we open all the windows and close the doors except for one. when a room is clear we shut the door and open the next room. you can clear out a house in a matter of minutes. 😊

Perhaps a remote sensor you can mount higher would be a useful accessory. Also need to be able to adjust auto sensitivity.

so is there a point to a window fan at all? was looking into it but the need for any fan to be away from the window for it to be effective negates the whole point of the window fans

Could you please simplify this for a senior living in a small room without air conditioning in a hot, dry climate? Do I buy the fan and put it 4 feet away from an open window? Does putting ice anywhere around the fan help? Thank you.

Bernoullies principle! with the fan backed away it created a pressure zone, and air around the front of the fan is also pulled in, so you get much more volume of air

Your accent is fascinating! I’m terrible with identifying accents but for me it was a toss up between Canadian, Scottish, and Irish until I saw the .ca in your website’s URL. I believe some regions of Canada had a lot of Scot-Irish immigration so it makes sense why there would be similarities in the accents!

In the early stages of the transition to LEDs, my father got a deal on several cases of Sylvania Osram LED bulbs and put them up all over his house. He gave me a case of them, and I started using them as bulbs burnt out. Ironically, those are the only ones I've ever had much issue with. Several developed a serious flicker, while a couple didn't even outlive the fluorescent bulb that was already in service next to it. I went with the slightly more expensive GE LEDs when I replaced all the cheap original light fixtures throughout the house about 4 years ago and haven't had to replace a bulb yet.

Another place is to wipe the dust off an old-style CRT using a tissue. It's relativelt easy to measure thed gamma spectrum of Polonium 210. Same ieea, balloon seems easier.

Gee I was expecting the black blob was a just a power factor correction capacitor, but it actually useless rubbish, would have been easier just hooking up the real cap. Also the rectifier and smoothing cap was unnecessary expense to just light up 2 green 5mm LEDs. madness. By plunging in Short circuited plug will ruine you're wall socket contacts and can possibly lead to a terminal fire in years to come on high current devices at night like a room heater. Yes we get it...its a SCAM.

I totally agree with you. I also noticed on regular old fashioned bulbs that are made in Mexico, they barely last two or three weeks and then they die.

My father was an electrician and as a kid I received dozens of zaps - and in a 240V country (Australia), they are the real deal... At the point where I could bearly walk, my dad had come home with a plug in his pocket, where he had cut the wires off flush with the body, and dumped on his dresser. I naturally plugged it into an outlet by pressing it in with my hy palm on the bare wire ends. Apparently I received a nice burned hole in my palm from that - made worse by the fact I had climbed onto a stool to gain access to the outlet (full marks for determination). Another time (at ~5yo) I was trying to electroplate a penny - I had attached wires to it and immersed it in mercury (ah, the good old days). I was then poking the wires into an electric radiator to "get electricity". Naturally, an explosion followed but with minimal harm. Another time, after my father had become alarmed and installed "safety shuttered" outlets throughout the house (which won't allow access to the live contacts without first having the longer earth pin enter)... I soon explored their operation and was (as related by my parents) "showing" the girl next door how they work with a bit of wire she was holding and a pair of scissors. Just a few cases - it is a wonder I survived. Electric shocks are very unpleasant - I don't know why I didn't learn... These days I am an Electrical Engineer with a healthy respect for these things and haven't received any shocks for decades 😊

They are EMI filters. They take the unscary spikes out of your circuit like when turning your tv or computer on. The one you have is a fake one
